Leixões (Portugal)
At a formal ceremony held on 28 January in Leixões, attended by various authorities and representatives of the construction consortia together with representatives of the consortium that drafted the project, Antea Group Spain & Latin America - GEG, work began on the projects awarded to the FCC-Contratas construction consortium.
Antea Group Spain & Latin America participated in the drafting of the railway construction project and is beginning its participation in this phase as Technical Assistance during the execution of the work in a joint venture with the Portuguese engineering firm GEG.
For Miguel Cruz, president of Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), “this intervention represents a fundamental investment in strengthening the capacity and efficiency of the national railway network, helping to consolidate the role of the Port of Leixões, the second largest in the country, as a strategic logistics hub for the competitiveness and export capacity of Portuguese companies”.
The overall intervention on the Leixões Line, amounting to 61,2 million Euros, involves work on infrastructure, signaling and telecommunications, supervision services, projects, expropriations, as well as the acquisition of track materials.
The modernization work, with an investment of 32 million Euros, covers a range of works aimed at improving railway operations, safety and infrastructure sustainability, such as:
- Redesign of the entry and exit tracks at the Leixões Terminal for 750-metre trains.
- Adaptation of sidings—allowing temporary parking and crossing of trains—at the Contumil and São Mamede de Infesta stations, thus ensuring the conditions for the operation of trains with a useful length of up to 750 metres.
- Improvement of the catenary along the entire Leixões line.
- Refurbishment of three existing telecommunications equipment rooms and construction of a new technical building in Leixões.
- Installation of five new GSM-R telecommunications towers.
This strategic project for Portugal consolidates Antea Group Spain & Latin America as a benchmark in railway engineering at an international level.
