The passenger rail project between Saltillo and Nuevo Laredo involves a double-track line, approximately 400 km in length, designed to improve regional connectivity in north-eastern Mexico and boost the country’s socio-economic development.

The new Agency for Railways and Integrated Public Transport has selected the consortium comprising Antea Group and Transconsult to provide supervision, control and monitoring services for the construction and design of the Derramadero, Saltillo, Ramos Arizpe and García railway stations, as part of the Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo Passenger Train project.

As part of national development planning, the Mexican Government has identified the “Passenger Trains 2024–2030” programme as one of the current administration’s priority projects.

This programme aims to develop a modern railway network that facilitates intermodal transport and strengthens the country’s connectivity, envisaging the implementation of over 3,000 km of new railway lines.

In this context, the Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo Passenger Train project is a strategic hub for the north-east region, as it integrates a mixed rail transport system—cargo and passengers—that will connect key cities, boosting competitiveness and territorial development.

The implementation of the Saltillo–Nuevo Laredo Passenger Train will generate significant positive impacts, notably improved regional connectivity, facilitating efficient travel between the main urban centres of the north-east; reduced journey times, enhancing logistical competitiveness and the quality of life for users; boosting economic development through the integration of production chains and the strengthening of trade; promoting more sustainable transport by encouraging rail alternatives with a lower environmental footprint compared to other modes of transport; and fostering orderly urban development associated with the deployment of rail infrastructure and intermodal hubs.

This project reinforces Antea Group’s commitment to the development of strategic infrastructure that contributes to more efficient, safe and sustainable mobility, as well as its position as a leader in engineering and consultancy services for strategic rail projects, providing specialised technical expertise in site supervision, quality control and comprehensive project management.
