The project aims to improve mobility and accessibility in the port environment, while renewing the image of the dock and making it more operational for maritime professionals and attractive for residents and visitors.

Antea Group Spain executed the works of Technical Assistance to the Works Management of the project to improve mobility and accessibility in the surroundings of the port of Palmeira. The works are promoted by the Consellería del Mar of the Xunta de Galicia, through Portos de Galicia, in coordination with the City Council of Ribeira, based on the preliminary project designed by the British architect David Chipperfield and the RIA Foundation.
The works were executed in a space of 2,305 square meters, in a length of 365 meters that runs along the coastline, between the beach and the pier.
The project seeks to humanize, modernize and provide facilities for the Palmeira seafront promenade, through the arrangement of the spaces according to current and future needs, the enhancement of the natural and built environment of Palmeira and the extension of the existing platform using locally familiar architectural materials and techniques, while generating new public spaces for the use of residents and visitors.
In his acceptance speech for the Pritzker Prize 2023, the British architect commented extensively on the territorial planning and local identity work carried out by Fundación RIA in Galicia, including the action plan for the urban integration of the seafront of Palmeira.
