On March 21st, the Federal Government inaugurated the first stage of the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA), built within the Santa Lucía Military Air Base No. 1, located in the municipality of Zumpango, State of Mexico.

This new airport, together with the remodeling and expansion of the Mexico City and Toluca airports, will respond to the current air traffic saturation in the Metropolitan Zone of the Valley of Mexico. The project includes the construction of two runways for civilian service and one for military service, making it a mixed-use airport. In addition, the infrastructure will include control towers for civil and military aviation, a terminal building, hangars, airport and passenger services, customs, a cargo terminal, and a parcel area, among other facilities.

In this first stage, the terminal will be able to serve 20 million passengers per year, and it is expected that, once the project is completed, its maximum capacity will reach 80 million passengers per year, providing sufficient infrastructure to meet the demand for civilian airport services for the next 50 years.

To guarantee accessibility to the new airport, the Ministry of Mobility of the Government of the State of Mexico, through the System of Highways, Airports, Related and Auxiliary Services (SAASCAEM), is developing five public-private highway projects, which together represent an investment of around 25 billion pesos:

  • Main access junction to the airport from the Circuito Exterior Mexiquense.
  • New Tultepec-Felipe Ángeles-Pirámides International Airport highway.
  • Extension to the east of the Naucalpan-Ecatepec highway.
  • Extension of the Siervo de la Nación urban highway.
  • New Conexión Oriente highway.

Antea Group, providing services as technical advisor to the Ministry of Mobility, has actively participated in the process of providing this new land connectivity infrastructure.
