The refurbishment and extension project will involve an investment of more than 1 million euros

Cambados, Pontevedra (Spain).

Portos de Galicia presented yesterday to the fishermen's guild and municipal representatives the technical proposal for the remodelling and extension project of the Tragove fish market, in the municipality of Cambados, Pontevedra, drafted by Antea Group Spain.

The president of the regional body, Ms Susana Lenguas, explained that the project aims to respond to the work needs expressed by the professional sector of Cambados, with a fish market that is among the ten most important in the community with a turnover of around 8 million euros per year and more than 1.000 tonnes of seafood products marketed. With this objective in mind, it envisages the extension of the current building to the northeast, creating a new area for cleaning boxes, fish preparation and cold and freezing chambers.

In addition, in order to give greater coverage to the auction room, the spaces will be redistributed and a surface area of 260 square metres will be enlarged, continuing the existing roof, which will include a small sheltered area to accommodate the loading and unloading of goods onto lorries. This will remove the cleaning area, the box store and the cold store from the current space of the fish market.

The project drawn up by Antea Group Spain also includes the refurbishment of the current ground floor, modifying the layout of the bathrooms and the guild's office and providing a changing room and toilet area, as well as a storage area for forklift trucks. Likewise, the health inspection office will be replaced by a customer service office. Finally, in the central area of the fish market, a space has been created for weighing fish and another for seafood, and the kiosk used for offices has been replaced by a new mobile element.
