The Macrolibramiento Mexiquense is an urban motorway of approximately 15 km in length that develops in the border area between the State of Mexico and the northern part of Mexico City. The route starts at Puente de Vigas, in Tlalnepantla, crosses the municipality of Gustavo A. Madero, in Mexico City, and reaches the Siervo de la Nación Highway and Gran Canal Avenue, in Ecatepec.

Prior to the entry into service of the new section, the motorway operated between Puente de Vigas and the Mexico-Pachuca highway for a length of 12,6 km, configured as a divided carriageway with 2 or 3 lanes in each direction, depending on the section. Approximately 6,6 km are on a viaduct over Los Remedios river, and the remaining 6 km are at-grade.

The recently opened operational section, which runs between the Mexico-Pachuca motorway and the Gran Canal avenue, increases the operational length by about 2,6 km. This section has a standard 16,5 m wide section with four lanes, two in each direction, and includes viaduct sections at Entronque Insurgentes and Avenida Centenario. During its construction, the Remedios River was vaulted over a length of about 2,3 km, between Insurgentes and the Grand Drainage Canal. In order to ensure safe and efficient operation, the motorway has been equipped with ITS systems and the corresponding toll and electronic toll equipment.
