Planning is choosing the future. Town and territorial planning both require an overall diagnosis of the territory to enable the areas apt for human settlement to be identified, those most capable of catering for the future growth of urban areas, and those as potential locations for economic activities, bearing in mind the factors associated to natural risks, provision of infrastructure, socioeconomic aspects, etc.
